The Illustrious Ayobahan of the Benin Kingdom

Today, we join the great sons and daughters of the ancient Benin Kingdom to honor a man whose life is etched into the living history of our people—Chief John Osamede Adun, fondly known as “Bob Izua.”

Born in the heart of Oredo, Chief Adun’s journey is one of resilience, enterprise, and unwavering devotion to the Edo people. As founder of Bob Izua Motors, he transformed a personal vision into a thriving enterprise, creating livelihoods for countless families across Edo State and beyond.

Yet his legacy reaches far beyond business. As Ayobahan of Benin Kingdom, Chief Adun remains a loyal custodian of our customs, a devoted supporter of the revered Oba of Benin, and a champion of peace and unity. His presence at royal occasions, his homage to the throne, and his promotion of cultural pride have earned him deep respect and affection.

His life reminds us of the words of Marcus Garvey:
“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
Chief Adun has ensured our roots remain strong.

In his devotion to community and tradition, we are reminded of the wisdom of Chinua Achebe:
“The strength of a nation lies in the homes of its people.”
Chief Adun has built homes—not just of brick and mortar, but of hope, dignity, and heritage.

On this special day, we pray:
– May the Almighty and our ancestors bless him with long life, good health, and continued wisdom
– May peace and happiness never depart from his household
– May his years ahead be crowned with fulfillment, honor, and enduring joy
– May his legacy inspire generations of Benin sons and daughters to embrace hard work, unity, and loyalty to the throne
