Young Author Chimamanda publishes book on Menstrual Health

Says your period not a taboo; urges young women to be confident

An undergraduate student of Hill City University, Liberia, Chimamanda Lucia Umeh, has released a new book titled My Period My Pride, aimed at educating women and young girls about menstruation while helping them overcome the shame and stigma often associated with their menstrual cycle.
The nursing-focused book, which is divided into five chapters, seeks to provide readers with useful knowledge about menstruation and encourage women to view their periods as a natural and important part of their lives rather than a subject to be treated as a taboo.

Umeh, who is pursuing her studies at Hill City University, Liberia, said the book was inspired by the need to promote confidence and proper understanding among young women who may feel embarrassed or uncomfortable discussing menstruation.

According to her, My Period My Pride is designed to remind women and girls that menstruation is not something to be ashamed of, but a natural biological process that deserves proper understanding, care and open discussion.

The book also seeks to contribute to menstrual health education by encouraging young girls to understand the changes their bodies undergo and to develop a positive attitude towards their menstrual health.

Umeh's latest publication adds to her growing profile as a young writer. She has previously authored two books, The Twins of Ihazi and Ijanikin, making My Period My Pride her third published work
.
Through her writings, Umeh combines her interest in nursing and literature to address issues that affect young people and society, while using storytelling and educational writing to promote awareness and positive values.

With My Period My Pride, the young author hopes to inspire women and girls to speak openly about menstruation, seek the right information and develop greater confidence in their bodies.

The book is expected to serve as an educational resource for young girls, parents, educators and others interested in promoting better understanding of menstrual health.
