NBA Benin condemns gruesome killing of protester by thugs

The Nigerian Bar Association, Benin branch (Lion Bar) condemns the gruesome killing of a protester and the brazen assault of so many other protesters who were peacefully exercising their constitutional right to assemble and protest peacefully at the Oba Ovormnmen Square (Ring Road) axis of Benin City on Friday 16th October, 2020.

We consider the brazen assault by a person or group of persons on protesters which subsequently led to the death of at least one protester as uncivilized, barbaric and wicked.

We call on the security agencies to urgently fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act and ensure they are prosecuted accordingly. The Bar in line with its mandate of being the watchdog of the society is willing to deploy its strength and resources in seeing to the diligent prosecution of these persons who assaulted not only protesters but have also assaulted our Constitution and by extension our democracy.
