Ramadan: MULAN President charges muslim lawyers on piety

As muslims all over the world continue their fast in the Holy month of ramadan, President of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Prof. Ibrahim Abikani has urged muslim lawyers to be pious and steadfast during the period.

The month of ramadan is a period in which muslims observe fasting and prayers as well as read the Qur'an

During the period, muslims are to fast for 29 or 30 days based on the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, and are not expected to eat or drink during the hours of daylight, while they are also enjoined to uphold the five pillars of Islam.

Speaking with the LawParliament Abiikani said that during the period muslims are called upon to observe all the tenets of Islam and imbibe its teachings

"My message to muslim lawyers especially and Nigerian muslims as a whole, is that.the period of ramadan is a special period for muslims all over the world.

"It is a period for sober reflection; it is a period when muslims are supposed to be closer to God and be more empathetic about the plights of the less privileged ," he said

Abikani said that even those who are most privileged all over the world, during this period, go through same conditions just like the least of the less privileged of the world.

According to him, even if one is able to feed, at this time such persons are compelled not to eat and so, are almost in the same position as those who do not have the means

"So, during this period, we remember those who are less privileged, we are closer to God, it is a moment to pray seriously for the nation and for ourselves.

"Our country is in a critical moment, and so, Nigerian muslims and the muslims lawyers especially, should use this period to pray for themselves and pray for Nigeria as a nation, so that we can be out of the whole challenges the country is facing .

"We congratulate every muslim for witnessing this period, despite the global pandemic; that we are still living at this period we glorify God for it.

"We appreciate Him, and it is a moment we continue to thank Him for sparing our lives and we pray that every muslim is going to have a sucessful fast and acceptance of our fast as individuals and as a nation," he said.
