What pains me most about this case is that:
1. It's an embarassment to our criminal Justice system - the whole world now knows that our police arrest people without first investigating the allegations against them
2. The suspect has been detained for more than 24 hours without bail for a bailable offence
3. The Attorney General of Lagos has himself issued a public Advise for his prosecution...because he is a Nollywood Star? Meanwhile there are many other criminal cases yet to get a DPP advice as suspects are languishing in our correctional facilities waiting for months for a DPP ADVICE
4. THE SUSPECT IS IN POLICE CUSTODY WHILE INVESTIGATIONS ARE ONGOING YET THE DPP HAS GIVEN ITS ADVICE? Then bring him before a Court of Law (JUSUN STRIKE CAN NEVER BE AN EXCUSE..and this should be applied to all suspects currently in police detention)
5. Both the Judiciary and the Ministry of Justice are complicit in running down our Administration of Criminal Justice system because there are more than enough laws that enable Judges and Magistrates to do their work under the ACJL without the need for a Courtroom.
I am totally dissapointed that our leaders refuse to think outside the box.
It's not too late for us to do what's right.
Our leaders are violating the law on Arrests and Detention daily. Our police are unmoved and remain the number one breakers of the law. The office of the AG condones these violation of basic rights while our Judiciary turns a blind eye to these fundamental breaches and refuses to correct the error.
Are we not all Criminals when we break these laws? Who will prosecute us?
We once had a country but now.....
